Flora & Fauna

By the geographic position, Costa Rica is indicated like a biological and cultural bridge. It is a rich country in flora and fauna. We have a 5% of the biodiversity of the planet.
This extraordinary beauty that favors to us is today a resource on which the sustainable development is based, that originates economic and social benefits based on the protection and conservation of the natural resources. The policies of conservation throughout the national territory, have allowed the Biological and Forest creation of National Parks, Reserves, like also Refuges of Wild Life. In them it is lodged around 13 000 species of plants, 850 species of birds, 6 500 species of butterflies, 163 of amphibians, 220 reptiles and 1 600 fish, like also a great number of mammals, like the jaguar and puma.
This natural and its conservations policies, have given Costa Rica international recognition and is one of the most important reasons that justify the growth of the tourists who visit us year to year.
With 1 816 km of the coast, Costa Rica offers throughout its coasts, beautiful beaches, some of which are refuge for the egg-laying of turtles: Tortuguero in the Caribbean, Beach Grande and Ostional in Guanacaste.
As far as the flora, Costa Rica is characterized by diversity in its species, that have been classified according to the altitude in that they are and to the rain regime.
